Happy Caffeinated Randomness Day! I love Andrea at Under Grace and Over Coffee. She hosts this little meme each Friday and if you have not hopped over there to check out some of the regulars, well, you should. Click here to visit…
So my husband left yesterday to hike through here:
Machu Picchu – in Peru.
Yes. Peru.
He will be there for 12 days.
Yes. 12 days.
In case you were wondering, as a matter of fact, I DO win the “Wife of the Year” Award.
But in all seriousness, I am so excited for him to experience this dream. My man is utterly and completely “wild at heart.” He loves adventure, testing himself physically, and beating his chest bonding with other dudes. He’s a total guy’s guy. On the other hand, I prefer to sit my arse down on the beach and read my life away when I go on vacation. Therefore, he is traveling with one of his best pals.
Though I am thrilled for him to experience the amazingness (yes, I know this is not a word) of this, I am a little nervous to be a solo parent for 12 days.
Yes. 12 days.
Gloria Gaynor’s “I Will Survive” keeps going through my head. When I was in high school, one of our teachers posed the following question: “If you were an figure skater, what song would you choose to accompany your performance to win a gold medal?”
Of course, I immediately chose Gloria’s song. Foreshadowing to some of the bumps ahead in my wild life? Perhaps.
But I want you to picture me, wearing a little ice skating outfit, twirling around my kitchen to “I Will Survive” right around the “witching hour” which is approximately around 5 – 6 p.m. for those of you who do not have children. For the next 12 days.
And here is the single most reason I want to learn how to do Photoshop – wouldn’t this photo be so much funnier if I could figure out how to superimpose my face on hers?
Sometimes when I sit down to write a post, I’m not always sure where it is going to go. This might be one of the scariest examples of such occurrences. I’m so sorry.
If you are still reading at this point, I need to now just outright BEG. GROVEL. Offer a kidney. Whatever.
I used to be in first place for the “Most Inspirational Blog” award at “I Am Mommy.” I am now second but just barely.
It is really not in my person to campaign for myself. I lost many a class elections in my formative years due to this character flaw.
But would you please, please, please, if you enjoy my blog, vote for me? Click here and scroll down to “Most Inspirational”. My sweet friend, who nominated me, is Michelle from “Boytrapped.” She’s up for “Best Parenting Blog” and I’m sure she would appreciate a vote as well. Voting will close on Monday.
OK. I will not ask anymore. I promise. This is it. Release it, release it.
So what song would you choose to accompany your figure skating performance for the gold medal?
Hiking in Peru! I so want to do that! I cannot believe he’s going without you. You do deserve the Wife of the Year award. Start skating now!
What would I skate to? Hmmm, maybe “Don’t Cry Out Loud” since I’m not in Peru? Just kidding. How about, “You’re the One That I Want” from Grease. Don’t ask me why that’s in my head right now, but since it is, I can’t for the life of me get anything else to pop out right now!

Yeah, well…I don’t really have any desire to go with him. Not at this season in my life – I am in a season in which when I go on a vacation, I want to do nothing. Nothing. Nothing. Maybe read, drink a margarita, and take a nap. That’s the kind of nothing I like to do on vacay.
I love the “Don’t Cry Out Loud” song!!! Too funny!
He’s gonna miss Mother’s Day?! You TOTALLY win Wife of the Year for this one!
You’ll be in my thoughts and prayers for the next two weeks…as I imagine you doing figure 8’s around screaming kids writhing around on your kitchen floor :)
Good luck with that!
And Happy Mother’s day, in advance!

Umm…Yes. And did I mention he was at a Nascar race during my last birthday? DOUBLE Wife of the Year Winner – two years in a row…I got my new MacBook out of it though…
Seriously though, the man is crazy supportive of anything I want to do. He never says no to any of my dreams and encourages me to get out and go away with my girlfriends so I do. He’s a gem. I have found if I allow him to do stuff like this and don’t give him too much grief about it, he comes back as a happy and refreshed hubby which is good for us all.
Thanks for your prayers – I will most certainly be needing them, sister!
You are SO funny!….I’m going to vote again…now, where’s my KIDNEY???
12 days! Wow, you do deserve an award. Maybe you should just come to Vegas and hang out with me….cuz that would be the best award everrrr, right? ha! No, really, I’d rather go hang out on a quiet beach to sleep and read. Let’s do that instead.
;-)

If you ever need one and I’m a match, it’s ALL yours!
Tell me where and when I will be there with about five books, margarita mix, and my flip-flops! Thanks, girl!
I am all about reading on the beach. Who cares about whatever’s in the water, I’m reading!!

Amen, sister! I have no idea what is going on around me when I am on sand and in front of water!
First, I so want to go hiking at Machu Picchu. I am jealous jealous jealous.
Second, he’s doing this over mother’s day? You really do win that award.
Third, when you get your 12-day vacation six months from now, where are you going to go?
.-= Marcus Goodyear´s last blog ..Close Encounters of the Cultural Kind =-.
First of all, thank you for reading and commenting, Marcus! Second, I am doing a few weekend trips here and there with girlfriends and will likely find a nice beach to plop myself on next winter…I love your thinking!
Oh. My. Gosh. Becky. (Name that song) We are two peas in a pod, Natalie! Just this very week, I did an entire post to the lyrics of Gloria Gaynor’s I will survive. True, I was pretending my son’s glasses were singing, cause I am weird like that, but still! And my husband went on an 11 day hunting trip and left me solo with the kids. And they all got super sick. But you have 12 days and your husband visiting a foreign land, so you totes win Wife of the Year.
Last I looked, you were winning the votes. You have been a hard chick to keep up with! :) Sadly, I think I have used up all my resources and I know no more humans to squander a vote from. I am tired of all this shameless begging for votes and I am ready to go back to just regular posting. Plus, I just opened up a Facebook page and had to ask them all to “like” me just a week before. Shameless, I tell you. Shameless.
Nice to meet you! I would be happy to lose to you! You have a great blog and a great sense of humor. :)

PS-I am really quite sick and have taken lots of different concoctions of over the counter drugs. I hope this comment made sense. I fear it was a bit long.

So great to find you through High Calling Blogs. What a fun post! Yes, you win wife of the year award. Is there only one witching hour, or doesn’t it come twice during the day – once just before breakfast? Either way, I’ll be praying that the next 12 days are filled with special moments for you and your kids, and safety and adventure for your husband.

Well now that the voting is out of the way…my goodness 12 days is a long time to be roughing it alone! But I’m sure you’ll do just fine! And I must agree with everyone – your husband is totally going to have to make it up to you since he’s not around for Mother’s Day.
Have a wonderful and blessed Mother’s Day!
I agree – he DID buy me lots of new spring/summer clothes and sent me the spa for facials with two dear friends so he’s off the hook…:) Thanks for reading, commenting, and voting, Denise!
he is treading that awesome place and you didnt go?! man, it’s so beautiful up there and it’s so peaceful (according to the travel channel). then again, 12 days without the husband sounds fun :)
