Sweet surrender.
So often I have felt God’s nudge and I’ll respond with “Really? Seriously? Now? It’s just not the time, God. Come on!”
Not Mary.
After hearing that she, a virgin, would give birth to our savior FROM AN ANGEL NONETHELESS, she simply said “May it be to me as you have said.”
Really?
She was thought to be 14 years old.
If that ain’t a bit humbling, I don’t know what is.
I am working on saying “May it be to me as you have said” when I feel God calling me to something that I don’t really want to do. “Working” being the operative word of course.
But I have a long way to go before I have a heart like Mary’s.

I KNOW!!! I posted last Christmas about what it must of been like to know you were responsible to raise the Son of God. Can you imagine? My favorite song is “Mary did you know?” I have to stop on the side of the road when this song comes on if I’m driving I can’t keep from the tears flying……..Powerful! I want to be used like Mary, willing like Mary, I want her heart too.

This is beautiful. What a thought. She did not tell God…give me some time to think it over…let me get back to you. She just surrendered.
Thanks for the reminder my friend.

It’s an amazing thing to think of someone so young that was so faith-filled and ready to say yes to God. I also often think of Joseph with awe. He could have had Mary stoned to death, but instead listened to God and took action that I can’t imagine many men would have done in that situation.
God works in so many wonderful and amazing ways.

Working is my operative word too. ;) I recently told our small group that I really feel God is trying to teach me to accept whatever it is that I am going through . . . whether it be something small like my daughter’s tantrums or being stuck in traffic or something life-altering. I don’t have the grace that Mary had — which means I don’t have the maturity of a teen, apparently. May that change!

It is very humbling to think about what Mary did and went through at such a young age. What humility and strength God gave her. Thanks for sharing this Natalie. It’s a great reminder for the rest of the day.
Those are powerful words and very humbling! Thanks so much for this post :)
Happy Word-filled Wednesday!

Being raised in a family that is un-Catholic…names like Mary and Elizabeth, etc. were poo-poo-ed when I was prego. I still wish I’d gone ahead with Mary…I mean, what a woman! To be chosen for that purpose. Some days I struggle with my call to motherhood…she started out knowing “a sword would pierce her soul!” And her response was just what it should have been!! Thank you for this today!

So true! I have trouble with “everyday” stuff. I can’t imagine if God were to come with such an inconceivable request. How would I react?

Praying my heart sweetly, not begrudgingly, surrenders to all that God calls me to.
Merry Christmas to you and yours!!

I love that you focused on those words! I want to repeat “may it be to me as you have said” all day long, every day. That would put a blunt end to a lot of doubt and worry, wouldn’t it? It’s about accepting our lot with joy! Whatever life He’s given us here has a purpose that is beyond us, we need to trust! Love it! Thank you!!
it blows my mind really! Happy WFW
Ummmm…yeah. I feel the same way you do. My friend got me some body lotion called Sweet Surrender. Now that it’s gone I keep the container just to remind me that I need to put Sweet Surrender on each day. I need to reapply lots of times throughout the day too.
