Dear Lord…please help us all. It’s true. I sing.
But it’s the content not the horrid, off-key voice (or the about-to-go-to-bed self possessing it) I want to share with you today – a lovely song that will give you a moment, literally 10-20 seconds, to center yourself with God for those days when that’s all you can do.
And let’s face it – there are just some days, more than I care to admit, that are like that in this season of mothering young children. Or teenagers. Or mothering no one and yet still consumed by the busyness of life.
Lyrics are included below – I think I flubbed some in my aria to you so forgive me, please.
Enjoy. Not sure it will ever happen again. You might be thankful for that, too.
I love you, Lord
And I lift my voice,
To worship you
Oh my soul rejoice
Take joy, my King
In what you hear
May it be a sweet, sweet sound in your ear
It’s official. I’m off my rocker. I know.
Nonetheless, I’m joining in with adorable Michelle from Lost in the Prairies and Rachel Anne at Home Sanctuary for Company Girl. You’ll love ’em.
One of my favorites!!! =)
Oh Natalie, you are precious. Thank you for that post [which Not Surprisingly served as such a healing balm after a difficult night of study/reflecting/pondering.]
Isn’t our dear Lord so full of tender mercies ~ even on the night shift?
Blessings [and sweet, sweet sleep] to you and yours tonight. I can “call it a night” now with such peace.
I’ve forgotten about that song. I was on a worship team at our old church and we sang this song quite frequently. We were meant to praise Him no matter what and all of our voices are a sweet sound to His ear.
I know those times as a mother/wife you’re talking about. There have been many more of them then I would have liked this past year. Sometimes all I could do was put on a cd and sing as loud as possible my heart song to God as my prayers.
PS You have a good voice. Don’t let anyone tell you differently.

Oh, that brought back such memories for me. When our daughter was 6 years old (she is 31 now) she sang that for one of our church worship services and it was the sweetest thing I had ever heard. It has been dear to my heart ever since. She just stood there like a real trooper and let it flow like a professional. I was one more proud Momma! :o)
Blessings to you this day!

I LOVE that song. I sing it to my kids sometimes at night as their lullaby!

Natalie! I love that you sang to us! What a wonderful gift. I love this song, too, and I think that I will sing it today during my shower. We could have an I Love You, Lord wave going today!
You are not alone in not getting up early to read your Bible. Not only have I fallen off the wagon, but the wagon has gone off the cliff.
I need some accountability, girl!

You have such a sweet, lilting voice — I don’t know who told you when you were little that you didn’t have a good voice, but you do — so sing out girlfriend! And that took a lot of courage to sing that wonderful song to us and I’m so glad you did. You are even more of an example showing us it’s okay to take down all those “protective walls” we build around ourselves and give everything to the Lord. He knows the voice He gave you and He wants to hear it. Thank you so much for sharing your voice with us. :) :)
That takes me back over 7 years ago when I had my last child. I joined a Moms group at church, and a wonderful woman named Karen would lead us in this song to start off our morning. I remember nursing my son and all the emotions…it had such an impact on me. I have sang it as a lullaby often, and just the other day found myself longing for the words. Thank you so much for sharing your beautiful voice with us!

Natlaie,
You are so fun. I can’t believe you just sang to the world. Not scary, at all. Loved it, girl.

I liked it! :) Particularly the truth that music can bring us straightaway to the feet of God and give us the perspective we need. :) Thanks for sharing!
I haven’t heard this song for so long… thank you!
Blessings on your day!
Sweet sound to you or not, it’s always a sweet sound to the Lord when we lift our voice to Him in worship.
Blessings,
Melissa

Oh, you can’t beat those words…as my daughter has just landed in Cosca Rica to work at a camp for the next month, those words are very dear to me as my heart is very full just now. Thank you so much for sharing.

Natalie, that was fantastic!!! Such a beautiful song, for sure.
We’ve done pretty good this week at reading, I think. I took my little nap and feel a ton better…thanks.
Happy weekend,
Erin
I used to sing this song (one of many!) to my babies at bedtime. Love it.

My dear Natalie….thank you for sharing the music in your soul. This takes me back to when your mother and I were “choir mothers” at Centenary. Lord knows we didn’t lead the singing of all your angelic voices as WE were in charge of clean choir robes and snacks! Just the same…those memories are among the “very precious.”
Love you, “Aunt Patty”
How perfect! Thank you for this!

I’m a little behind on my blog reading and just read this one tonight. That is one of my favorite songs that I often sing as a lullaby to my boys. Thank you for the encouragement and thank you for braving it and singing. I think sometimes we forget that we are to make a joyful noise no matter what we sound like. And also that when we lift our voices to the Lord we are joined in our song by a chorus of angels…nothing can get more beautiful than that! ~Jessica
