“Mama, I love you,” said the almost four-year-old voice, the one who belongs to the boy who is enamored by his mama, who has a slight crush without it being weird, who must know where I am at all times.

He’s holding up the heart in his “Lucky Charms” cereal and the real one in my chest melts.

His two year old brother reads a book of animals, one that has a photo of a pair of lovebirds and says “Mommy and Daddy”. He places his dimpled hands around my face and squeezes hard – a face hug?

“I love you more than you will ever love me, Mommy,” my now six year old daughter chides now that she is old enough to know everything.

Despite my several foibles in parenting, our home runneth over with love.  By the grace of God Himself.

I remember dreading this day of hearts and pink and glitter and romance back in the days when I was single but now I see that it really is just a celebration of love in any form.  Romantic love is just one piece of the heart-shaped Valentine’s Day puzzle.

And God?  He tells us so much about love:

Be devoted to one another in brotherly love.  Honor one another above yourselves. – Romans 12:10

But I will sing of your strength, in the morning I will sing of your love, for you are my fortress, my refuge in times of trouble.  – Psalm 59:16

The Lord your God is with you, He is might to save.  He will take great delight in you, He will quiet you with His love, He will rejoice over you with singing. – Zephaniah 3:17

Give thanks to the Lord, for He is good.  His love endures forever. – 1 Chronicles 16:34

The earth is full of His unfailing love. – Psalm 33:5

Above all, love each other deeply because love covers a multitude of sins. – 1 Peter 4:8
