I love music.

Almost as much as I love books.

It’s true that I am book lover, a reader of obsessive proportions, one who others seek out for recommendations because they know my nose is always in a book.

If I had to choose one or the other, books would win.

But wow.  Would I ever miss a life with no music.

Luckily, I married a music-lovin’ man and the melodies of Van Morrison of Keb Mo of Brad Paisley of Hillsong of Coldplay of U2 of Eric Church of so many others, can be heard singing throughout our home at any given time.

Sarah performs lyrics with articulate vocal drama while Spencer plays a fierce air guitar.  Samuel, not surprisingly, loves the drums.

We secretly wish to shove them into music lessons as soon as it’s age-appropriate.

Music has a way of stirring my soul, of taking me back to a memory or comforting the tears that stream down my face on a day when it’s just all too much.

It moves me.  It forces me to grow.  It reminds me that I’m not so alone.

It’s critical to my spiritual growth and for cleaning the cobwebs from a mind that often gets convoluted with the things of this world and the expectations and busyness of it all.

Next week, I will publish my “Top Ten Favorite Secular Songs”, but today, I start with my “Top Ten Favorite Songs That Push Me Closer To Him”:

10.  “Came to the Rescue” by Hillsong United

9.  “Give Me Jesus” by Jeremy Camp
